I had a dream this morning, in between repeatedly startling awake to look at the alarm clock and make sure I wasn't late. I'm late anyway, but oh well.
It was just before sundown at that time of day when the sun is so low that you can barely feel its heat, and yet still high enough that it is not difficult to see. charley and I were standing in a meadowy forest. There were enough trees that we couldn't see too far ahead of us, but not enough to make running a difficult task.
We were both armed with giant nets, and were running through the trees laughing and joking with one another. Whenever we saw a butterfly in the air, we would swing our great nets into the air and catch it. We must do this all time, as we were pretty accurate.
After catching the butterfly we would place the nets on the ground with the open side down, so the butterflies could not escape and then continue frolicking further into the forest, catching more butterflies along the way.
Though I never saw it happen, it was known that another group of people would walk through the forest and take all the butterflies out of the nets. They would bring the nets and the butterflies back with them. It was not entirely clear, but I believe butterfly catching and harvesting was our employment.
On this particular day, we had been running and laughing and talking so much we weren't really paying attention to where we were going. Charlene was walking a good distance in front of me when, suddenly, she was caught in something. I threw down my net and ran to her assistance.
It didn't take long to untangle her, and afterwards we were both starring at what had held her, and trying to figure out what it was.
It seemed to be a net of sorts. The holes in it were just close enough that a human couldn't fit through them. It went in both directions in the forest for as far as we could see, and continued further into the sky then eyes were capable of focusing on.
It took a few minutes of silence for us to discover what it was we were looking at. Just as we had been capturing butterflies… something had captured us.
