August 6th, 2001:

no network blues

Our external network access at work is down. I am so very tired. I had planned on just coming into work and not doing much of anything: read the latest developer news, look for new software releases on FreshMeat, check my email, etc. But, with the network down, I am unable to do that, and therefore and attempting to work. Only I am so tired that starring at code is the LAST thing I want to do. So it is making me antsy. I keep fidgeting with this or that. Worse of all, I keep trying the network, hoping that it has some back up.

I think I am going to take lunch today. Go grab some fast food to go, and take a drive some place semi-quiet so I can just sit, and eat, and not worry about anything. If only it were a little bit cooler. It is currently (damn it! Of course my “Weather Watcher” applet doesn’t work when it can’t reach the network to get the current weather. Grrr) very fucking hot.

I knew I should have stayed home today.

one-eight-oh

Yesterday afternoon, I drove out to McKinney to see sn0w_cr4sh>, Morgan and Zoe. , and were already there. We hung out until around five o’clock, and then and I headed to my place. Then I got my pot-roast on with and . Eventually showed up. He’s lucky we saved him any.

After dinner, we watched TV and then, eventually, moved into the office to check email and what not. rockbugg picked up my machine-head missing guitar and actually played something on it: a feat I could never accomplish. Maybe I should learn to play guitar.

Then, we drove to Denton to bowl with peener and Mike. In the last game that I played, in the 9th frame I had 131 and was sitting on a spare. I bowled a strike, and then another, leaving me at 171 with one ball left. I threw it and watched it collide with the ten pins on the other side of the lane. The first eight fell rather quickly and then it was as though time stood still waiting for the pins to stop flying. As the last moving pin slammed its way across the lane it rammed into one last pin. It caved and, after what seemed like hours, eventually fell. I think the whole bowling alley heard me cheer when it fell. I was so happy. 180 had been my goal for quite some time now, and I finally made it. If I can do it again tonight, I will be even happier and feel less like it was just luck.

After bowling, we went home and I played a little UT with farrisgoldstein> and Mike. Mike beat our asses. Then, and I put in “The Thirteenth floor”. It is one of my favorite movies (though I am not sure if that is because of plot, acting skill, or Gretchen Mol alone) but was too tired and not paying enough attention to understand it. She kept asking silly questions over and over again. Eventually, we just turned it off and went to bed.

When I woke up this morning, jaclyn had made me a pot of coffee. And so now here I sit on my lazy ass drinking coffee and reading LiveJournal.

I wish I didn’t have to work today.
