January 1st, 2002:

Don’t need no black eyed peas

All these late nights and early (relatively) mornings are making me tired. I am going to take a nap.

Sarah just called. She’s done chasing mice around in Rockwall, so she’s going to come hang out and we’ll get dinner or something.

(2 hours, 44 minutes and 7 seconds.)

I quit.

I think Toby is pissed off at me. He woke me up EARLY this morning and hasn’t left me alone since. First trying to get in the laundry room. Then scratching at my face trying to wake me up. Then he knocked a vase on the floor in the kitchen.

I’m trying to decide if I should clean up now… or just get back in bed. I’m sleepy, but this place is a mess. I don’t think I could go back to bed anyway.

I’m going to do something I don’t usually do.

2002 New Year’s Resolution:

Keep this place clean. Like everyday, before I go to bed… it should be clean. It doesn’t take that long, and will save a lot of work in the long run. In order to promote this… I am requesting that all my friends drop by on a regular basis unannounced or with only a small amount of notice (to save the trouble of driving out here for no reason.)

Speaking of dropping by with short notice… Bonnie and Justin are coming over. Cool. I gotta go get dressed.

NYE2k2 party recap

New Years Eve was fun. I spent most of the afternoon dorking around with computers and the MP3 server (which ended up not working correctly do to network latency of an undetermined source) and cleaning. Not counting Joel, Emily, Wes and Justin (who are basically family) the guests started showing up around 9pm.

I had three shots and two Vodka and Ginger Ale’s… which was plenty for me. Wes and Sean disappeared during the course of the evening, never to return. We figured out what happened to Sean, but Wes remains a mystery.

It was a quite different party than what I am used to. No drinking games. I didn’t try to get anyone naked playing strip poker. I only smoked one cigarette. People talked most of the evening.

We didn’t drink ANY of the Champagne Matt bought which is unfortunate. Maybe we’ll have to have a NYE2k2 Part II to take care of that.

I didn’t get a kiss at midnight… maybe next year.

Sarah and I ended up together which was really nice. I’m not quite sure how it happened, as I was pretty tipsy at that point, and listening to the twins talk back and forth can have quite a dizzying effect on anyone. I enjoyed having her there, though I was a bit more nervous than I expected… which was kind of odd. Usually those initial moments are awkward, but then things get a bit less nerve wracking. For some reason, it didn’t happen like that this time.

People started clearing out around 4am. Joel and Emily left around 5 leaving only Sarah, the twins and I. They left soon after that. I walked them to the car, and offered Sarah a hug. I had secretly hoped they would decide that they were too tired to drive home… but that didn’t happen.

Sarah forgot her CDs and ended up coming back for them. I met her on the doorstep and gave her a hug after handing her her CDs.

I don’t know what will become of this… and for right now… it doesn’t really matter. I had a good time, and her being there was a big reason for that.

Mike and Lisa were missed, as were Julie and David, and Amanda and Royce. Maybe next time.

One thing this has made me realize: good friends and good times are what living is all about. Without these, we have nothing to show for our lives, and nothing to look forward to in the days to come.

Happy New Year to you all. May this year bring you unsurpassed happiness, satisfaction in yourselves and peace within your souls.
