snowflakes
January 2nd, 2002I remember my
first snowfall.
You and I
danced under the street light
in front of your house wearing
nothing
but the blanket we shared.
Thousands of snowflakes were falling.
I watched
as they landed on your flesh,
showed their faces for
nor more than a moment,
and then melted away under the
heat of your skin.
I don't regret us as I have
learned from it all.
Many more have fallen
since you.
But now, I do not waste them
by allowing them to
burn on your skin
I open my mouth wide and
breathe them all in.
