I now have both drives running at ATA100 (I think) via the Promise controller on my Asus A7V.
"hdparam -X69 -d1 -c3 -m16 -u1 /dev/hdx" did the trick to boost my throughput to about 33MB/s. The only problem I am having now is trying to get Linux to NOT probe ide0 and ide1. The "ide0=noprobe" [...]
