hardware problems
March 8th, 2002I think something is seriously wrong with my machine. I am led to believe that it's problems are heat induced. 161°F cannot be good for a system to run at constantly. Tomorrow (hopefully) I'll buy a new case, and a new CPU fan, and hopefully keep it much cooler that way. The temperature in my apartment was 80°F when I got home this evening. Apparently, that additional heat was enough to put my machine on the fritz. Monitor looked retarded and I kept getting odd kernel panic errors. The machine is currently off, getting some much needed rest, and I am on my laptop.
Anyone want to go with me to buy a case, a CPU fan and some case fans? Also… what can I do to keep my graphics card cooler? It was almost too hot to touch, and I think that might explain the bad video. There isn't much room to mount anything more on the chip (there's already a fan there), so I hope getting the system temperature down will help keep it cooler as well.
