failure
March 25th, 2002Ha!
Our primary webserver (yes… we only have one) just generated an error message regarding a kernel memory fault, and, of course, a kernel panic and then rebooted itself. I'm not sure how long the machine was down, because I know close to nothing about this architecture and how it works, and even less about this operating system and when it logs. As best as I can tell, there was a kernel panic, the machine rebooted and came back up in 3 seconds (which is unheard of as far as normal boot times on this system go). The only reason I knew it went down was because there is one service that I have to start manually on that box, and my pager went off when an automated process I wrote found that this service was not running on the box.
Very weird.
