new life

I shouldn't have read this at work. I am doing the best I can to fight back tears.

I was never faced with worries or concerns of unplanned children when I was a teenager. I graduated early (at 16) but didn't lose my virginity until I was 19 years old. While the first few times were unplanned and unprotected in every way, for the most part, I have been fairly cautious in the area of pregnancy.

I am also very fortunate to be living the life that I am. I make enough money to support a family, should I need to. Additionally, even if I didn't, I have always had a very strong and loving family and group of friends that would be happy to help every step of the way.

In regard to abortion, I believe in a woman's right to choose. However, if I were a woman, there has never been a point in my life where I believe choosing abortion would have been the right choice.

I think about all the babies that are born everyday, unwanted and unloved, and uncared for. It makes me very grateful that Morgan and Brad and such wonderful and loving parents to Zoe. And it makes me very thankful that I had such a strong and caring family when I was growing up. I am glad there are women like the author of this letter who are capable of seeing past themselves, and looking into the life of her unborn child, and making the decision that is best for that new life. I know people with children who are not destined to lead such healthy lives.

Vincent and Lesley come to mind. They choose to have baby Allison about three years ago, just out of high school. Unlike Morgan and Brad, neither of them were prepared to be parents, and neither of them really wanted the responsibility. Vincent and Lesley's relationship has always been littered with drugs, and lies, and trouble. Unfortunately, neither of them made much of an effort to improve that for the new life they had decided to bring into this world.

I haven't seen Vincent, Lesley or Allison in at least a year, if not more. But the last time I saw them, things weren't any better.
