broken truck

Sometime last night, my truck was broken into. The extended cab window on the drivers side was smashed, then the drivers side door was unlocked. I believe there were two people involved, as the passenger door was also unlocked. My seats had been pulled forward, making it clear that they looked in the back for something worth taking. They rummaged through my glovebox, and left it open, but I can't think of anything valuable that was in there. They attemtped to pry my stereo out by the cd slot, using either a screw driver, or a cro-bar, or something of that nature. They managed to ruin the stereo, however, they did not get it out. They did not take the $250 tripod sitting on the back seat. They did not take the $150 radar detector hanging in plain view in my window. They did not even take my TollTag.

As best as I can tell, they got nothing for their trouble, and just broke a bunch of stuff that I now have to replace. In a way, I wish they would have gotten the stereo to feed their kids, or their drug addiction, or gain notarity in front of their buddies because, as it stands now, nobody wins. They worked for nothing, and I have to pay to fix all the stuff they broke.

One thing that is odd, is that they seem to have taken a bag full of trash and dumped it all over the inside of the cab of my truck. Oh no. Wait. That was there already.

I guess there are some good sides to this: I'm not at work right now; I hated that car stereo, and now I get a new one; I'll probably clean my truck now, if anything, just to get the glass out.

It's just annoying, more than anything.

I called information to get the number for the Dallas Police, and the lady told me to call "311″, which I did. The guy there, at first, acted as though he couldn't possibly understand why I would call him if my truck had been broken into, but then I asked him where I should go to file a report, and he said, "me. you talk to me." I gave him all the information he needed, and he said a police officer would contact me. That was about an hour ago. I asked him how long it would take and he said, "it could take 15 minutes, it could take several hours, it depends on how many cars have been broken into this morning." I asked him if I should drive it, or if I should wait for a police officer to look at it and he said, "I don't know." He was a real jerk.

I took pictures of the mess.

Update: If I remember correctly, there were a couple of one dollar bills in my ashtray that now only contains pennies. THOSE BASTARDS!! Now I'll get revenge!! Umm. No.
