June, 2002:

apartment woes

I talked to the Mansions at Coyote Ridge in regard to their claims of extensive damage done by Jaclyn and I to our apartment prior to move out and the $1351.30 in damages they are claiming we did.

My first complaint was that I received two letters from them, one stating I owed $651.30 and showing an itemized list of charges and the existence of $900 in deposits that were made. The second letter stated that it would go on my credit in 10 days and that I owed $790.30. I asked her to explain the discrepancy and she stated that it must have been a computer error and that what I owe is $651.30.

My second complaint was that, while I agree that the amounts she is charging me are reasonable for the tasks being performed I do not believe that those damages were present when I left the apartment on March 31st and I do not believe that those tasks were ever performed on the apartment. She told me that the chief of Maintenance performs the walk-through herself and that, with damage this extensive, pictures will have been taken. She’s going to see if she can get the pictures and will call me this afternoon or tomorrow. The nice thing is, haphazardly, I took pictures of my own as we were leaving. I’d like to see how her pictures match up to mine.

She claims that it was a good thing I called because it was going to go on my credit tomorrow. But she’ll stop it for now until we can get on the same page (oh isn’t that nice of her). We’ll see how this pans out.

One thing is for certain. I am doing the move-out walk-through with the apartment complex from now on. I just don’t trust those bastards any more.

Doctor’s appointment Thursday at 12:00pm.

I need to find a new doctor. The one I go to now is TOO far away.

Man. I am getting my finances straightened out and cleaned up and ready for all these wonderful things that are happening.

It turns out BBNow has been charging me $84.49/mo for the past 4 months. Ugh. I got a check from Fidelity that I never cashed for $187.99. Apparently they mailed it right as I was moving, and it’s probably sitting in my old mailbox or something. Verizon thought I owed them $42.51, but it turns out they owe me $0.57. I should get my credit soon on that.

More to come. Hold on to your hats kids. This is getting messy.

meetup

My, oh my.

livejournal.meetup.com has 28 people registered for Dallas, and 56 people for the Denton-Plano area (which puts Denton-Plano at 4th place for the most people signed up).

Also, if you consider that all the DFW cities should be included in ONE group, then DFW has 101 participants (though some of them may be duplicates, like myself, though it doesn’t seem there are too many). 101 people puts us trailing the Seattle area (with clearly the largest LJ userbase) by only 12 people.

Come on. Sign up. Get other people to sign up. This is gonna be fun (like shirts).

utilities

AMLI properties have started this thing where you can get all your utilities connected and ordered online. I think that’s pretty cool. The interface is a little but difficult to understand, but, once you get the hang of it, it works well. My only complaint is that the website offered me Alarm Monitoring and Basic Cable options when those things are supposed to be included in my rent. Additionally, they didn’t offer Washer/Dryer rental in any of the services there. I’ll call them tomorrow (when my application should be processed) to double check about the cable and the alarm and find out where I should order a Washer/Dryer from (or should I buy another set? I don’t know).

Electricity is Green Mountain Energy (so I can save money and trees, woo!). Phone is SBC (about $20/mo for basic services). Cable modem is AT&T Broadband (just under $40/mo not counting cable modem rental, but I think I can use the RCA from the Mansions. I’ll have to call and ask).

It felt really good to order OUR electric service, OUR phone, and OUR cable modem. Nothing has ever felt more right. I am so giddy and excited it isn’t even funny.

my baby

Jessyca is amazing. I was feeling so insecure and so worried about all of this apartment stuff and trying to make everything perfect before she got here and she made everything better. She said, “Let’s worry about getting us together. After that, we’ll tackle all the little stuff together. A new couch isn’t going to make me happy. You’re what’s going to make me happy.”

I love you, Jess.

plans

I’m up. Jaclyn’s up. And I didn’t even have to call her.

I’m getting ready now, and then I’m leaving to pick her up at 10:00am (although, knowing my an my inability to get ready quickly, it’ll be more like 10:30). We are going for a quick little hike and picture taking adventure for my girl. Then we’re going to Target so she can return some stuff she bought that doesn’t fit. After that, I’m going to drop her off back at her place, and head to my Mom’s house.

My Aunt Marcia, Uncle Bob, and cousins Chad and Chelsey are in town for Jason’s wedding (which is this Friday… god I am so not ready for this). They got here two days ago and my mom has decided to throw the cousins a little birthday party since both of their birthday’s are in July (I think… close to July anyway).

As much as I want to see everyone because I haven’t in quite some time, I have a lot of stuff I’d like to get done at home too, so I hope I don’t stay too long.

Apartment Hunt (part end)

We found an apartment! It is the Amli at Valley Ranch. It is a nice one bedroom with a study. It is the best floor plan I have ever lived in. The leasing agent was really nice (and really gay). I tried to call Jess to make sure it was okay with her, but she was at work, so I put down a deposit anyway. I really like it, it backs up to a greenbelt, and has lots of walking trails just behind the apartment complex. A great kitchen, huge living room, giant bedroom and a really nice bathroom with two sinks! I am really happy with it, and don’t think I could have found anything better. My rent will be $802/mo. Everything has been remodeled so even though it was built in 1987, you wouldn’t know it. There is a door in our bedroom that leads out to a nice little creek with rocks and trees and flowers. It’s very close to my work and everything in the Irving/Las Colinas area.

I hope Jess likes it, cause we’re stuck if she doesn’t.

My move in date is July 12th, which should give me plenty of time to make things nice before Jess comes to visit in August.

Apartment Hunt (part II)

Taking a shower, then going to 4 places today.

Thanks to Brad, Bonnie, Justin, Jaclyn, and Tony for their help in picking a place.

Somerset

$775/mo – 864 sqft – 2 bedrooms (view)

Same as above, only a porch instead of the sunroom. Also, no fireplace, so the living room is much larger.

Pace’s Point

$756/mo – 779 sqft – 1 Bedrom – Den (view)

Excellent layout. Dining room in a neat place. Hard to place furniture in livingroom. Fireplace. Small patio. Good sized bedroom. Breakfast bar in a good place.

Amli at Valley Ranch

$805/mo – 816 sqft – 1 bedroom – Breakfast nook (view)

Interesting floor plan. It has a breakfast nook AND a dining room, which means the dining room could be used for computers and such. Large living room. Two sinks in the bathroom. Fireplace.

The Cabochon At Las Colinas

$805/mo – 787 sqft – 1 bedroom – den – fireplace (view)

It’s hard to read the floor plan, so I don’t know for sure what the room sizes are. This place looks great though. Small kitchen, but I’ll learn to cope. Some wasted space in the “dressing room” area of the bathroom (and I hate wasted space). Fireplace. Right on the Mandalay Canal in the heart of Las Colinas.
