It looks like ServerMatrix (from the people at theplanet.com) is going to be my best bet. I currently pay $25/mo for services, and can't really afford to pay more than that. So, I'm looking for $75 worth of "business" to host on it. This is only for people I KNOW. I'm not actually starting a webhosting business here… just trying to recover costs. The machine stats are as follows.
- Intel Celeron 1.7 GHz
- 512 MB Ram
- RedHat 9.0 (blah)
- 750 GB Bandwidth
- 40 GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
With these stats, I can easily host my stuff (which includes Jess and my Dad) plus 8 other people. This means, that I need to charge about $10/mo. For $10/mo I'll give you 2GB of space (more if needed, I just need to set a limit of some sort), and 50 GB of bandwidth (again… more if needed, there just has to be SOME limit). This'll include all of the latest gadgets including Perl, PHP, Apache, MySQL, IMAP, POP, SMTP, etc. If you need something special… ask me… I'm sure I can do it. You won't get root on the box, but you can rest assured that, I can add just about anything you need. The server should remain VERY speedy and responsive, as there will not be that many users involved. I don't intend on making any money on this… so I'm just going to host enough people to cover costs. Whatever you need, it can be done.
Who's interested? Would it be better if I cut the bandwidth, storage space, and price in half and sold twice as many?
