electrical woes

The other day all of the electrical outlets in our office stopped working. We quickly realized that the Air Conditioner/Heater was also without power. There were two breakers in the box that had been tripped: one labeled "heat" and the other with a label that had been scribbled out and never rewritten. One is above the other.

I turned them both back on and the tripped again immediately.

I unplugged everything and then turned them back on, and the they tripped again.

I turned off the master A/C power switch and turned them back on, and they tripped again.

Then I figured it out. If I turn on just ONE of them, everything works: the electrical outlets and the A/C. It doesn't matter which one I turn on, as long as I just turn on one. If I turn them both on, it trips.

That's scary.

So, they are both off for the time being. Our warranty people, despite the scary language in the actual warranty document were quite nice to work with. An electrician is coming today between 1 and 3pm to have a look at it. So, I'm working from home today.

Weeee!
