revjim.net running WordPress

After lots of fiddling, groping, tweaking, screaming, vomiting, and suicidal tendencies, *revjim.net* is now running "WordPress":http://wordpress.org/.

It's a bittersweet victory for me. On one hand, I'm happy to, once again, have a blogging engine that allows me to get words onto a page with all of the control over it that I desire without standing in my way too much. On the other hand, WordPress is dead simple in design and implementation and, in this case, _simplicity breeds stupidity_. Some stupidity has found its way into the core, but most of it can be seen on the fringes in plugins. It took quite a bit of cursing and bashing to get it all in some fashion where I can stand to look at it.

My current theme isn't at all what I want but it was easy to obtain when using the Kubrick theme as a base. In time, I'll replace the entire theme with one of my own design.

"LiveJournal":http://livejournal.com/ users will be happy to know that I've implemented "OpenID":http://openid.net/. What this means is that by typing in your LiveJournal user name only ONE time and accepting the authorization from LiveJournal, you'll be able to comment quickly and easily without having to type in any information at all (other than your comment, of course).

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this development.

  • Yeah, WordPress is like that isn't it?

At the end of the day though, it's a tool for publishing your thoughts without having to fight the software to get a post onto the page...
  • Well done on getting it all up and running. I think you're aware that although WordPress is in a more familiar language for me also (PHP), I quite frankly dislike it's standard theme and general 'feel' much generally preferring Typo or MovableType as the 'base'.

Theme-wise you may be interested to know Christoph Boecken has successfully ported Marco van Hylckama's 'LUSH' typo theme to Wordpress and is available below:
