I think you're aware that although WordPress is in a more familiar language for me also (PHP), I quite frankly dislike it's standard theme and general 'feel' much generally preferring Typo or MovableType as the 'base'. Theme-wise you may be interested to know Christoph Boecken has successfully ported Marco van Hylckama's 'LUSH' typo theme to Wordpress and is available below: http://jeriko.l-tech.org/2006/03/06/introducing-lush-for-wordpress/ :) Well done on getting it all up and running.
