March 9th, 2006:

with each rise and fall

On most mornings I get up before you do. I usually make coffee, check my email, read the news, and try start my day. Sometimes, however, after a little while, I’ll get back in bed and wrap my arms tightly around you as you sleep. I find great peace in holding you tight against me.

With every rise and fall of your chest and every exhale across my arm I find peace and warmth and love and infinity. In that instant I recall why I love you, and why I fall in love with you again day after day and morning after morning.

Each day of my life starts and ends with you. I can’t imagine it any other way.
