I donno. I think its more of a style diffrence, you see something in it that for some reason others are missing. But IMO I kinda like it. No its not the most exciting out there but its certany worth more then a 3! I have seen enough bad photography to know this is has something to it, and I do agree with your views on it, I like the curves, the composition, tones/colors, and the depth. It dosen't feel flat like so many, it feels like you could just walk right into it. The more I keep looking at it the more I see and the more it all comes together to become beautiful. There is no unnessary clutter or anything out of place. Nothing I would want you to change in the least bit.
Well that's how I feel about it. I think those low scores were from people who just glanced at it for a few seconds and moved on. Its a photo you have to spend time on to see everything and understand it.

"Why would I be drawn to this image when others, clearly, are not?"

You answer yourself:
I love the mood of the photograph and the subtle, muted tones of the bricks and grass. I love the blown out sky and the leafless trees. I love the curved angle of the brick and the separation it creates between the grass and the sky.

I don't think your perception is flawed. Different, possibly. Is that a "bad" thing? Of course not. Look at the crap that's currently hanging in the Dallas Museum of Art.

That particular piece moves you for whatever reason. That, I believe, is the definition of good art.
