July 24th, 2006:

don’t worry, I know what I’m doing

What makes “this morning’s catastrophe”:http://revjim.net/2006/07/24/off-to-a-bad-start/ even more annoying is that the reason I was even going into my office at 5 in the morning when I should be getting ready to head out the door for work was because I edited two photo sessions Sunday morning and I needed to upload them so I could send them out and show them off. I edited the “rest of a session with Stefanie”:http://revjim.net/2006/05/02/stop/ and then I edited last Thursday’s session, the first (aside from practice with Jess) in which I’ve started playing with a new style of portraiture for me. Hopefully I’ll have them up for you tonight, assuming my computer cooperates with me.

Speaking of this new style of portraiture, it’s a lot of fun and the results are quite good. It’s especially interesting because the possibilities for environment are almost endless, yet I still get high quality, controllable lighting like I would in the studio. And, if you’re like me and you just like causing a scene, one of the best parts is the reaction from other people and, in the case of Thursday night, local law enforcement. Since I’m still developing this style quite heavily, if you’re willing to be my guinea pig, I am looking for volunteers. It’ll cost you nothing but a signed model release. Let me know.

I’m really starting to get into the swing of getting photo sessions edited again. Because I’m under such a huge backlog, I’ve been editing from both the top and the bottom of the pile so that I get a nice mixture of new work edited in a timely fashion as well as old work that’s been sitting around forever. Last week I edited 5 sessions total. I hope to keep that up this week as well.

off to a bad start

Today’s not starting off too well. I went into my office this morning to find no power in the room. Apparently, something caused the breaker to blow. I turned off a few things, went downstairs to flip the breaker back on, then came back up stairs to find that my computer isn’t working. It booted, by my USB keyboard and mouse didn’t work. I unplugged it from the back of the computer and then plugged it back in which caused the monitor to go black. I rebooted but still nothing showed up on the screen.

It’s probably a coincidence. Not the breaker blowing — that’s because our house was built by idiots — the computer issues. A few wiggles of this and jiggles of that and the whole thing would have probably started working again. It’s always had electrical problems that I just can’t seem to figure out how to fix and wiggling stuff almost always seems to straighten them out. I just didn’t have the patience to deal with it this morning.

So, I’m at work now taking deep breaths and trying not to think about the annoying hassle that waits for me when I get home. I’ve got some good music to listen to, some monotonous work to drown myself in, and, to punctuate the monotony, some pictures to look at that very hot friend sent of herself last night just because (which is the best reason ever to send scantily clad pictures of yourself to someone).
