I really like “Justin’s”:http://gentlenews.com/ new “Daily Format”:http://gentlenews.com/category/daily/ providing updates on even the simplest aspects of life in a quick, interesting manner so I’ve decided to copy it. Over 3 months ago I started a segment on this site called “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”:http://revjim.net/category/ytt/ that attempted the same goal with a very different format. That attempt failed to be interesting and so it was eventually halted. Let’s see how this one works out.
I’ve been having a harder and harder time getting up each day. My alarm went off this morning at 5:00 and I don’t even remember hearing it. Miette, one of my two cats, heard it though. The alarm must really annoy her because if I don’t get up within a few minutes of it going off, I’m awakened by her sitting on my chest, looking straight into my face, and meowing very loudly. This morning was no exception. I was out of bed by 5:15.
*This Just In!* Statistics show that people would prefer to see pretty pictures of “hot girls”:http://revjim.net/2006/04/29/jessica-outtake/, “horses and hot girls”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/10/casualties-of-art/ and “sandhills in hot weather”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/01/monahans-sandhills/, or read about “pain”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/08/prophecy-fulfilled/, “heartache”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/08/been-said/, and “silly surveys”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/07/another-stupid-survey-because-i-can/ much more than they would prefer to read about “my upcoming plans”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/07/5-day-forecast/, “technical woes”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/06/how-to-put-an-image-online/ or a “simple poem about love, freedom, and child-like behavior”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/11/growing-down/. Duly Noted.
I spent last Sunday photographing “an old friend”:http://flickr.com/photos/revjim/118093887/. It’s hard to believe I’ve known her since she was 10 years old. She brought her boyfriend (which I normally forbid but made an exception this time) as well as two friends (one who does makeup!). We had a great time.
The last time I photographed her, roughly when “this picture”:http://flickr.com/photos/revjim/118093887/ was taken, was about 5 years ago. She was dating my brother back then and my portrait skills had a long way to go. My new skill set and a willingness to even consider the sexy side of Julie made for a very fun session.
I haven’t had a chance to even pull the images off the card but, when I do, I’m sure I’ll like the results. Her friends were very nice, and a lot of fun. I had a great time and I think everyone else did too. I’d like to hang out with them all again some time.
What’s a good baseline for disarousal? Let’s say that “1″ is the state of arousal after having just finished looking at a set of Janet Reno publicity photos.

Last night we had our family celebration for my sister’s 24th birthday and “Jess’”:http://sivatonight.livejournal.com/ 23rd. Daisy and Tim (who “we went to New Braunfels”:http://revjim.net/2006/08/31/new-braunfels-for-the-weekend/ with) were there too which was awesome. While we have plenty of similarities among us we are also very different people. However, we all have enough respect for the beliefs, thoughts, and feelings of others that we manage to get along very well and even learn a thing or two from one another. On top of that, they have a geniune concern for me and a real interest in who I am. I could use more friends like this.
My brother and my sister-in-law we there two which was very cool. I see my brother once a month if I’m lucky, but I haven’t seen my sister-in-law since April or so, I think. I hope I see them again soon. It’s nice to have family.
“Justin”:http://gentlenews.com/ has agreed to help me with a small soldering project in order to, hopefully, repair my “broken flash foot”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/10/casualties-of-art/. I think I may pick up a few more flashes anyway. The recycle time on battery operated flashes is hell, by doubling up I can get a faster recycle and have more lights if I need the versatility. I’ll either need to order a few more wireless receivers or create some extension cables (1/4″ phono jack on one side, male PC sync on the other) and splitters so that I can trigger two lights with one signal.
“The book order”:http://revjim.net/2006/09/01/finding-place-ordered/ came in yesterday. 12 books in a nice neat stack (11 orders, and one for me). It makes me happy to see it finally complete. I decided to include an 8×10″ print from the book with each pre-ordered book. I’m picking up the print order today and spending the evening packaging it all up and getting it ready for shipping. If you’d like a copy of the book and didn’t get in on pre-ordering, you can now “purchase it directly from Lulu”:http://www.lulu.com/content/233962/.
Tonight Jess is working late and I’m home alone and without plans. If you’d like to come by and hang out, get naked, and/or fool around in the studio let me know. Otherwise, I’ll edit photographs (I have Liz, Stefanie, and Sarah images waiting to be finished, as well as all sorts of new stuff to start on), and work on packaging up the book. Jess is working late on Thursday as well and I’m without plans. On Friday, she’s leaving right after work to go to my sister’s wedding invitation making party with the other bridesmaids and again I have no plans. So, let me know.
Half of all location photography is moving furniture.
