shock and surprise
September 18th, 2006Apparently, I'm too busy and important to provide you with daily updates over the weekend, so I guess I'll just have to recap all of that for you now.
Friday, like I said I would, I went straight home and worked on the "Daniel James Photography":http://djamesphoto.com/ website, as well as the "Arranging Light":http://djamesphoto.com/arranginglight/ photoblog. The website still has a long way to go, but I think the edits I need to do in the photoblog are just about complete. If you have any comments to add, even if it's just "looks good to me", now would be a good time.
I need to change the links in the top left to go to real places. I'd like to add image rating so I can get an idea of which images I should consider adding to my portfolio. In addition, I want to add private comments to provide an easy way to offer feedback on my work. I also want to create an archive page showing the various image categories and there contained images. If all goes well, I'll have those bits completed tonight. Then, I'll resume my daily photograph posting. I know many of you are waiting for that.
Once Jess got off work around 7pm, we drove out to my parents' house. Jess was helping my sister (along with my mom, Jeni, and a few others) make bridal shower invitations. I hung out with my dad, Tim, and Mike, and, for the first time ever, played Guitar Hero. I did better than I thought I would, but poor enough that even Jeni and Tim's 3 or 4 year old daughter was laughing at me. We got home around 2am.
Saturday we slept in. Then I spent most of the afternoon trying to make sense out of the software I've just starting using to sell photographs ("ExposureManager":http://exposuremanager.com/). More on that later.
We arrived at the exhibit around 6pm and setup. The next 4 hours found me utterly shocked and surprised. Well over 30 people showed up in specific support of me and my work. Some of these people had emailed me earlier in the week and told me they *couldn't* make it, yet found a way to do so anyway. Some of these people are very new friends that I would have never expected to see there. Some people even took it upon themselves to share my work with others by bringing more people with them; people I didn't even know. My thanks goes out to each and every one of you for showing me more support than I could have ever dreamed of and, of course, to my kind and caring wife who I'm pretty sure had a lot to do with it.
After the exhibit, some of us went to Starbucks for coffee while others went to Mike's place to be met up with later. When coffee was done, some went home while others continued on to Mikes. I don't even know what time I got home that night but it was late.
Sunday we cleaned up a bit, and I spent more time dealing with "that software":http://exposuremanager.com/. Around 3:30pm the couple I had a photo session appointment with showed up. 30 minutes early even, which is awesome. We did some really creative work in the studio and then headed out for some location work: just picture a hot girl wearing next to nothing, drenched in rain, standing in the middle of a decaying concrete environment. Very nice. We hit one more location after that, and then parted ways. Jess and I got home around 8:30, made dinner, and then went to be shortly there after.
All in all, a wonderfully busy and very surprising weekend. More later.
