say "thank you" to the nice computer, dear

When I call the customer service of a company that has one of those voice systems that requests that I speak to it in plain english, I find myself saying "please" and "thank you" even though I know it isn't listening any more. Ocassionally I'll end sentences with "you bitch" when the system doesn't seem to understand me so well. Of course, that only makes it understand me less.

  • One of my favorite things to do back when we worked tech support was listen to the holding queue. If I got to work and my computer wasn't free (i.e. person on shift before me on a long call) I would walk over to the manager and they would often let me listen to the holding queue. The person on hold just heard music, but we could hear them. Some people would be singing, some cussing, some holding conversations with other people. VERY INTERESTING to listen to (and good to remember when you are on hold... you might be less alone than you think).

I HATE VOICE RECOGNITION SOFTWARE!!!!! I'd absolutely rather key in a bunch of numbers on the key pad rather than speak to one of those things. I always have to repeat myself. They don't factor in a southern accent!!
