Caddo Lake and Back Again
February 11th, 2008Our Caddo Lake trip was a huge success! Celeste did wonderfully, it was nice to spend the weekend with my parents, and Jess and I both really enjoyed ourselves.
As much as a 6 week old can love anything, Celeste loves being outdoors and that makes me very happy. I love to watch her face as the wind blows on her, or watch her eyes widen as she hears the birds chirping in the trees over head. I feel as though one of the most important things I can teach her is respect for nature and it's frailty, awe and love for its beauty and complexity, and a desire to preserve it in every way that she can. I know she's only 6 weeks old, but I think that getting her out into these places that are special to me is a good way to start.
As usual, we brought waay too much food and too much water, but the quantities were just right on everything else. And, despite Celeste taking up way more room than anything that small really should, everything fit into the car perfectly. In fact, with the exception of one small hitch, the new car performed beautifully as well. I'm not sure what the deal is but at least 50% of the time the fuel door won't open when I pull the release. We're having it looked at this week and, until then, refueling is a two man operation - one to pull the release, the other to snake a credit card into the door crack.
Despite the fact that the 422 photos I took the last time I went to the Texas Bayou have fallen aside and, aside from these 10, mostly remain unedited … I took 660 more this weekend. Lots of those are bracketed and repeats… but still. It's a lot to swim through. So, you'll be seeing some more photos. Maybe. Possibly. Probably. We'll see.
