Tweet Digests Suspended

It seems that more people hated them than there were people who liked them. So, at least for now, the tweet digests being sent by LoudTwitter (my posts titled "yesterday, in brief") have been suspended. If this pleases you, please feel free to sound your cheers in the comments below. If you would prefer to see them still, let me know. If there is enough interest, I'll set up a special feed for it.

I REALLY liked the digest. I would check it almost every day and see the tweets I missed (usually because they were directed @ someone). If you setup a separate RSS feed would you let me know so I can subscribe to it?
  • I certainly will. You can, of course, already subscribe directly to the twitter feed. It just won't be in digest format.

Post them if you want to post them -- it's YOUR blog, not anyone else's.

That having been said, I skip everybody's twitter posts. So if you want me to know something, don't twitter it and expect me to read it later. =)
  • It is *MY* blog, yes. But, the only reason it really exists is because other people read it. If it was just for me to read, I could just use notepad. So, it's important to me that if a majority of the people don't like something or are always skipping something, that I find some way to make that content interesting or get rid of it.

So far, not a single person has said they liked it. And, truth be told, I skip over those in the blogs/journals I read too... but usually that's because I subscribe that person's Tweets to my phone.
  • I just skipped them without reading as I saw them in twitteriffic anyway.

    Regards,

    Rob...
  • That's what I've been doing... only I see mine as SMS messages.
  • I don't like them myself, but never complain about others because, really, who gives a shit? It's your LJ/Blog, put what you want there. I'll read it or not read it.
  • I guess so. But, if even gets tedious for me to scroll past a day's worth of Tweet Digests because I know I've seen them already in my phone. What's sad is that I occasionally get good, awesome comments on my "Yesterday, In brief" posts from people who either don't subscribe to my Tweets or didn't see it the first time around.

I'll figure it all out though. Somehow.

Did this thing just eat my comment? Grrr.
  • Nope. I just moderate the comments of users who aren't registered to try to keep the spammers at bay.

Yay! But I wasn't seriously bothered. I did, however, miss seeing "regular posts" and I had a difficult time figuring out WTF was going on in those messages. And I usually gave it effort, too.

So yeah. I can understand wanting your own record, but jeez. Keep in mind, though, it wasn't just you on my f-list and that just compounds the annoyance. When 25% or more of people just post twitter (or regularly do) at length, it's frustrating. So it wasn't like, OMG DANIEL STOP, it was wishing people in general would cut back on those long twitter entires. So, thank you for being the seemingly second person to take this into consideration. :)
  • I miss my regular posts too. I haven't had one in ages. It seems that my time is being eaten from every corner and my perfectionist nature keeps me from doing anything too quickly. I'm changing that too, though. I want to write more. I want to share more. It's good for me. I just have to find a way I can do that. And I think I'm almost there.... if I can just find the time to make it happen. ha.

I got yelled at too when I used it. I kinda like them though as I frequently turn the google chat twitter thingy off because it's so annoying or doesn't always work. On my LJ FL your summary post is no different than any other FL post so it's no big deal. OTH I do everything on my laptop and nothing on my cell except talk.
  • You use your cell phone to talk?! Hahahaha. That's Old Skool. ;)

Thank you. It was interesting at first, mostly for the novelty. Then it began to eat my brain, especially since others joined in, and about 10-15% of my friendslist became Twitter digests. This became especially painful after I actually got a Twitter account and was seeing the same thing in two places. DO NOT WANT.

From my point of view, if I want to follow someone on Twitter, I will follow them on Twitter. I understand, though, that some people want some of that info without signing up for a new account. Perhaps keep with the digests, but post them under an explicitly opt-in filter? Or perhaps set them up as a separate feed for people to add to their friendslist?

I do think it's an interesting concept, and the social dynamics around it are interesting to think and talk abooooot.
  • Seeing the same thing twice is never any good. To be avoided if possible.

I don't like opt-in filters because I have to manage them. But I can easily make a community with only one poster (me) and people can follow that community if they want the digests.

The community approach worked well for me. Turns out only 6 people were interested in those digests.
  • Thank god :) I was seriously thinking about just removing you from my standard filter. Your posts made up a good chunk of the size of each update and I can't make heads or tails from most of the entries anyway.
  • Ha. I knew you would be on that side of the fence.

More than anything I wanted them for me because I don't trust twitter to keep a permanent record. I'm just going to whip up an rss archiver and store them that way instead.
