body cleanse progress

The body portion of this Cleanse is going quite well. I've also learned that a drastically reduced calorie lifestyle can really make a difference in how I feel.

Pros:

  • I have lots of energy. Lots!
  • My Libido has increased (I guess this is a Pro. Ugh. Send provisions, or at least photos of them! Stat!).
  • I feel lighter on my feet.
  • I am lighter. I've lost 5.3lbs since my weigh in Friday morning. Considering that is 3 days time, this means I've lost around 1.75lbs per day. (Now you're more likely to send those provisions.)
  • I am more agile.
  • I am more clear-headed.
  • I am more calm.
  • I have more free time.
  • I feel better about myself.
  • There has been a decrease in Meniere's Symptoms. I suspected this would happen since I'm certain most of my symptoms are food triggered and I'm now not eating any food.
  • The background mental frustration I often feel is clearing.

Cons:

  • I crave food. A lot.
  • I am more restless (probably because of that free time and my lack of motivation to put it to good use right now).
  • Headaches are still present, though fading. Again, this is quite possibly due to caffeine withdrawl, of which I've had none for the past three days.

Unfortunately, I can't keep eating what I'm eating or I'll likely die of malnutrition eventually. What I need to concentrate on once the body cleanse is complete is what foods I can eat that will bring me noursihment and energy without reducing any of these positive effects.

I'm still not free my food addiction. I've deliberately placed myself in two situations where I was allowed to eat food. (Yes, this means that the body cleanse will take a few extra days to complete, but the mental work involved was worth it.) In both cases I did VERY well. I was in control of what I was eating and how I ate it. I enjoyed the food and the company, but did not stuff myself. The average serving at our table of 6 was roughly 4 times the amount of food I ate on both occasions. However, the cravings are strong enough that, without the determination I have now, I would cave. So, any moment of weakness, high stress, or confusion could send me back into that addiction. I need more work here.

  • That is some serious weight loss! I'd just be weary of making it sustainable and altering your everyday lifestyle so such drastic measures are not required in the future (easier said then done I know).

From experience the caffeine headaches will subside over 2-3 weeks, and the withdrawal of caffeine have a massive impact on your energy levels and clarity of thought.

    Well done chap :)
  • Agreed. That's the next step. Get clean, then reintroduce myself back in
    slowly.

So, the exercise portion of this starts when? =)
  • Ha. Well, body cleanse and exercise do not exactly go hand in hand, though
    they are related.

However, to that point, the exercise has already begun. I was already pretty
active, more active than most people I know. But I've thrown in 30-45
minutes of aerobic activity 3 or 4 times a week as well. Since starting this
on Friday, I've walked 3 miles (drenched in sweat, ugh), and done 1 hour of
    aerobic and strength training exercises.
  • mw
While not a bad start, you're probably going to want to work a bit more cardio activity into that as well.

Also, given your propensity for scheduling, I'll say this... aim for 3 days a week, but don't sweat it if you miss one now and then. =)
  • Maybe so. I'm not really interested in that right now. While losing weight
is a nice side effect of this, it isn't the goal. And neither is getting in
    shape.
  • mw
Granted, but if you're going to go for the whole cleanse thing, you may as well take a holistic approach and do the last few steps to round out your current activities.

Think of it like a box... sure you can take out all the bad stuff, but unless you replace it with good stuff, you're just leaving a void that's liable to fill up with the first things that come along.
  • This is possibly true. But, at this point, it's simply not going to happen.
In a few weeks, I can consider adding even more cardio to the cardio I'm
already doing if that's what's needed. That's a whole additional bout of
research and thought and planning I'll have to do. Forced exercise has never
been my forte. I'd rather just get out and do. And as it is my time is
limited and I'm already devoting a chunk from a few nights a week to cardio.
I'm not going to step it up any until I'm sure that's the best use of my
    time.

And a void is not always a bad thing. Imagine a glass without a void. Would
    it even be useful?
  • mw
As for the time constraints, true enough.

The void isn't the point - it's what's going into the void. =)
  • My hopes are that NOTHING will go into the void. The void will just be
there, for itself. To be filled and emptied with whatever pleases me at the
    moment.
