I just realized that you're right. Despite generally being very accurate, mine currently tells me I'm near Denton Square, when I'm actually about 15 miles from there.

From what I've read the Touch doesn't have a GPS receiver. It uses wifi to triangulate your approximate location. I am currently sitting in my living room and my Touch tells me I am in Pittsburgh.

The only app I use that has implemented push notifications is Beejive. But it isn't free. I really do like it though. The only push options I have are to turn on sounds, badges, and alerts. I originally had all of them on but have since turned off alerts. Evry time someone IM's me I would get a popup message. Now I just check for the badge every once in a while.

I would really love it if Apple could implement a notification system similar to the one that is on the Pre. That is best I've seen so far.

I haven't read specs or anything but I'm pretty sure the touch has some form of GPSr as it seems to know where I am with good accuracy.

Can you recommend any other free apps that use push?

A few comments about the iPhone and iPod Touch. The iPhone 3G(S) has a GPS receiver where Touch doesn't. Hopefully they will put GPS to the next gen Touch.

Gmail on iPhone doesn't support push email. It sucks, I wish it did. Yahoo supports push though, I'm not sure why gmail doesn't.

I've only had my iPhone for a few weeks and I am pleasantly surprised at how fast I can type. I still make a lot of mistakes but it's autocorrection is very good.

Overall I like the iPhone, especially the hardware. If they would allow more customization of the notifications I would be really happy, maybe jailbreaking will fix that.
